I think this title moved from the White House to Angela Merkel within a few days (at best) after the inauguration of Trump. That guy (and his voters) turned the US into an international laughing stock.

I wonder if his replacement in 2020 or 2024 (or whenever) will be able to ever get that title  back. It’ll probably take time. A lot of time. Years, decades maybe.

I realized it yesterday when I saw gas for $1.75, and I hate to admit it, but I actually agree with maybe 90% of the things he’s done while in office so far. I vehemently disagree with The Wall and the environmental legislation he’s overturned, but it’s pretty easy for me to agree with most of his tariffs and increased border security.

Besides the arguably false claims that the US is more free than Germany, I would argue the leader of the f ree world is not the ‘most free’ country, but the leading country among free countries. As the US under Trump has given up almost all its leading positions, it is not the leader any more.

“F reedom” can be subjective (many Murkans would rather have the freedom to hoard toys that go “boom” rather than the free peace of mind to not worry about medical bankruptcy) , but I think it is hard to argue against the US losing leadership claims when 45 was inaugurated . His base may love him, but he is far out of his league compared to actual leaders and statesmen/women. Germany has long been a leader in terms of quality of life for its residents - something the US has been ceding to other developed nations for many years.
